Welcome to Tiska Leatherwork

I love leather. The way it feels, the way it smells. How it can be used for so many things. Its durability, longevity, the characteristics of how it ages, and its very origins as a waste product of the meat industry which make it a sustainable material.

I work with predominantly vegetable tanned leather, preferring its strength and aesthetic but chrome tanned leather also features in some of my smaller pieces (and also makes up the majority of my restoration commissions).

Leather requires care and maintenance, whether it is in a classic or new car, used in furniture, clothing or bags and accessories, and if treated and cared for properly, should last a lifetime.

Laura-Jayne Hunter

Hello, I'm Laura

I am at my happiest when I am being creative, whether creating a new design for a commission or working out how best to help repair or restore a much-loved leather possession.

I was taught to sew (by hand and on a machine) when I was young, and made my own designs of bags, clothes, and home furnishings from a young age. In the last 12 years I have worked with and built a business in leatherwork training with Jason Stocks-Young in saddle stitching, with the UK Detailing Academy in leather repair and recolouring, and with Simon Isles Coachbuilding on classic car upholstery.

In a world that needs its resources preserving and protecting, and a desire to make life more sustainable, I will continue to build my knowledge and skills of how to treat, repair, recolour, restore and extend the life of leather whether it is a bag, car seat or item of furniture.
